The City
Centrally located in the heartland of the U.S. and sprawling along the shore of Lake Michigan, Chicago rises boldly out of the fertile plains of Illinois. Named by poet Carl Sandburg the "City of the Big Shoulders," Chicago has grown accustomed to doing everything in a big way. This even includes its disasters, such as the Great Fire of 1871, which left the young city in charred ruins. From those ashes was born an architectural genius, however, which has left Chicago with one of the world's most beautiful and impressive skylines, including the monumental Sears Tower. Today, Chicago is one of the most ethnically diverse and culturally vibrant cities in America.
Unfortunately, Chicago also has a history of big problems. From Al Capone and the gangsters of the 1920s to the street gangs and drug dealers of today, the city has always been desperate for the hope that only the Gospel of Jesus Christ can bring. This is where you can step in by choosing a life-changing Summer in the City of Chicago...
More: The Project • The Ministry Sites • The Training • The Fun
The Project
For eight weeks you will have the opportunity to partner with urban churches and ministries as they spread the love of Christ to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of those who are hurting. As you come alongside these "Heroes of the Faith" who have been called by God to labor full-time in the city, your faith will be stretched. You will work with 30 other college students from across the country. On weekends, you will have the chance to experience the exciting sights and sounds of Chicago.

The Ministry Sites: TBA
The Training
A staff team of 6-8 full-time Christian workers will be intent on helping you grow in your walk with God and in your understanding of the Bible. A special emphasis for the summer will be upon cross-cultural ministry and racial unity, two urban issues that are quickly becoming necessary cornerstones of effective Christian ministry outside of the big cities as well. You will receive specific training in evangelism, followed by outreach opportunities to apply what you're learning. In your small-group Bible Study each week, one of the staff will help you process all that God is teaching you. At our weekly meetings, special guest speakers will help you gain a better understanding of the issues involved with urban issues.

The Fun
Down by Lake Michigan, you can rest on the beach, take a scenic boat ride, play basketball and volleyball, or enjoy the entertainment complex on Navy Pier. The Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, and the Field Museum of Natural History are just a few of Chicago's illustrious museums and cultural centers. If you don't want to explore Chinatown or La Villita (Little Village), maybe you'll want to spend an afternoon at historic Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play.
Before or after any event, you can always dig into some of the famous
Chicago-style pizza. To walk off the food, take a tour of the downtown architectural wonders, or maybe do some window-shopping along Michigan Avenue's "Magnificent Mile." If you have time left, you can see a Broadway play, listen to some blues or jazz bands, or scream your lungs out at the Six Flags Great America amusement park.
Then, for your second weekend in the city...
