The Project
Whether it’s home to you or you’ve never been here⦠Los Angeles, the city of the future, needs you! We will love and serve the people of the city while we are learning the heart of God, perspectives, and skills that will help us plant movements everywhere we go. Experience a wide variety of urban ministry opportunities. If you have a heart for leadership in an urban context, this is the summer for you!
During this time we will have training on God’s heart for the poor, spiritual disciplines, understanding cross-cultural differences, getting to know people, and serving churches in the city of Compton and surrounding areas. We will also focus on evangelism training and learn about building movements everywhere. Our goal every year is to empower the churches we partner with and to challenge college students to be leaders in an urban setting.

The Ministry Sites:
Calvary Baptist Church: Calvary is an African-American church ministering in Compton. The church's ministry is wholistic: they emphasize evangelism and discipleship, but also have food and clothing distributions, community events, etc. Calvary also has a S.A.Y. Yes! Center for Youth Development where SITC students will have the opportunity to interact with the children.
Iglesia Bautista Ebenezer: Pastor Melvin Acevedo is a former Campus Crusade for Christ staff member who felt God's call to pastor this church ten years ago. Located in Huntington Park, a cultural center of Latino community, the church emphasizes evangelism and discipleship. Prepare to wipe the sleep out of your eyes! You will start early with a morning prayer meeting.
Los Angeles Mission: The LA Mission provides the necessities of life to hundreds of men, women, and children who live on the streets of Skid Row. In one year alone, the Mission will serve more than 350,000 meals, give away more than 100,000 articles of clothing, provide 18,000 showers and 75,000 nights of shelter. The Mission also has extensive programs for rehabilitation, education, job skill, and other general services for men and women.
The Training
You will gain experience in evangelism, racial reconciliation, and a heart for the lost. These are important aspects that, as Christians, we need to apply wherever God has asked us to minister.
