The City
New York City has been called the "gorgeous mosaic," home to an incredible diversity of cultures and ethnic groups. One third of its inhabitants are foreign born. Several neighborhoods find more than 100 languages spoken within a few blocks. It's the largest city in America, and a tenth of the people in the U.S. can be seen from the top of the Empire State Building.

The Project
The New York Project gives you a great variety of experiences. You'll get to work under the leadership of several ethnic groups and work in a different setting each week. You could serve the homeless at a soup kitchen, teach children at a vacation Bible School, share your faith on an urban campus, counsel kids at a camp for inner-city kids, and canvas a neighborhood for a local church. Most importantly, you'll get to see the way that God is working mightily in NYC.

The Ministry Sites:
Perhaps you'll work at Salt and Sea Mission in Coney Island. The director was once homeless herself, and really understands the needs of the destitute. It won't take long for you to feel quite grateful when you see people picking through the garbage cans on the boardwalk for lunch. Maybe you will be at Soul Saving Station and help to tutor inner-city kids in Harlem. It's doubtful you will ever feel as loved by so many strangers in your life!
You could end up at Bushwick Helping Hands, a community with 83% drop-out rate for high schoolers. Over 90% of the leadership were homeless and have gone through the program. They have their own recording studios, beauty shop, etc., and everyone has a job. You will work with teenagers, feed meals, and be amazed.
You will spend a week on an urban campus and get to hear the views of many world religions. This will be your chance to think about how to be more cross-cultural on your own campus. You'll certainly realize your need for an apologetics class or two.

The Training
You will be given some tools to work in these situations. Expect to learn from some awesome inner-city pastors who will help us work through cross-cultural issues. You'll practice some helpful hints for racial reconciliation. Of course, we will train you with some of the materials that Campus Crusade is best known for — its expertise: evangelism and walking with Christ.
