What to Bring
This is Seattle, and we get 48 inches of rain per year, so a water repellant jacket with a hood is most desirable (note: a cotton sweatshirt, even with a hood, is not sufficient). You will need a Bible, notepads, toiletries, sleeping bag, pillow, towels (2), and flip-flops. As for clothing, bring casual clothing, work clothing, an outfit for services at a formal African-American church, and a dressy outfit. Students are more than welcome to bring musical instruments and music for worship times. When packing for the week, remember that you will be staying in close quarters and space will be limited.
Health/Housing
The project team carries a full emergency and first-aid kit on the bus. Housing will be in a secure, clean, but not so comfortable, inner-city church gymnasium.
Other Information
Participants will be divided up into teams to serve at various inner-city ministries. You will likely have the opportunity to minister to inner-city children/teens. It is our priority to include evangelistic opportunities in all our work projects. You will work alongside seasoned inner-city Christian workers at various host ministry sites doing a variety of activities including work projects, assisting in children's after-school programs, and community outreach.
During Urban Immersion you will have the opportunity to learn and develop a servant's heart by serving the poor. Your group will be teamed up with an inner-city church or mission in Seattle. Activities and events will focus on your personal walk with Christ as well as your outward ministry. You can expect to be given opportunities to serve in a variety of leadership roles. We will eat breakfast and dinners together, but will often eat lunch at your ministry site.
